The Motley is run by the students of Scripps College. Applications for new baristas and community engagement interns open at the beginning of each semester, typically being due during the second week of classes. Position duties:

Attending comprehensive drink and customer service training the weekend following hiring
Attending bi-weekly employee meetings (Sunday nights from 6-7 PM, the first on September 16th)
Attending 1 deep cleaning session per semester following Friday evening close
Working 2­-3 shifts per week (2-3 hours each) with 1 or 2 other baristas per shift
Possibly working closing shifts, which will end at midnight, 1 hour after the Motley has officially closed
Participate in additional trainings as necessary throughout the semester


Current Scripps student
FWS or NWS; work-study preferred
No prior experience necessary

Physical/Mental Demands of Barista Position*
     Ability to lift heavy boxes and crates
     Ability to remain standing for up to 2 1/2 hours
     Comfortability in bending, twisting, and reaching
     Handling stressful and busy situations

Position duties:

Help plan and execute Motley-sponsored events
Independently plan at least 2 events per semester
Set up, supervise, and clean-up after events, including use of sound system and projector
Promote events, including creating and distributing flyers and other advertising materials
Decorate sitting room and assist with space organization
Attend bi-weekly Motley employee meetings (~every other Sunday from 6-7 p.m.)


Current Scripps student
Passionate about event planning and community outreach
Flexible in working independently and as part of a team
Comfortable networking with on- and off-campus organizations
FWS or NWS; work-study preferred
